CURE YOURSELF OF EXCUSITIS

This is a review of THE MAGIC OF THINKING BIG by David J. Schwarts. The second chapter of the book brings into in-depth analysis of characters portrayed by loosers.

Excusitis : A mediocre person who is suffering from the sickness of a mental disease of MAKING EXCUSES every time that aren't made by the successful person.
I can boldly say many of us suffer from one form or the other of this illness. Even the rich has a little of it within but its so mild that you might not even figure out its presence. It is in the interest of he who seeks to be rich to do away with this trait. The voice of excusitis makes you believe a lie in such a way that it becomes the truth after a while.

Remember from the previous chapter that, what ever your mind believes, it start working and creating action plans towards it. Excusitis makes your mind blunt and action plans that need to be created for your own success are not created. The voice of an individual suffering from excusitis often goes like:

  • If only i were to be as tall as Nicholas, i would have made it into the football academy. Football academy requires football skills and not height for selection. Instead of one to work out to be the best in skills, he or she accepts the failure of this cures and refuses to grow from there.

  • If only i was as talented as Messi, i would be playing for Barcelona. For the record, there is not talent which can compete with hardwork. The talent of Messi and all every other succesful individual is hardwork. If only we could all see the number of times Messi has trained since he was born, we would only realise that it is hardwork that has brought him thus far.

  • If only i had good health. If only i had money. If only my father was rich. All these statements are dream killers and a disease of the poor.

Imagine the number of great discoveries that wouldnt have been discovered if these men believed in excuses. Benjamin Franklin was very young when he became the US president. He could have used his age and fear as an excuse and not led the country into greatness. Roosevelt could have hidden behind his lifeless legs; Truman could have used "no college education";. But all these are excuisitis.

Excusitis grow the more you feed it. That is why it is necessary for you to vaccinate yourself in the quest of achieving something great in your life. Excusitis is bad and creates failures. Put in mind to never give an excuse for something you have to do . If you have to do it, it must be done.
