Starved From the Humanities

Don't read your fellow-strivers, fellow-workers...—Goethe

I've been noticing recently, a yearning for intellectual and spiritual support among those going along with the reactionary sentiment against the "SJW" class, post-modernists, or anyone else along this circle. This makes sense to me as over the last century or so, these types of people massively influenced by Marx and his cohort thinkers have gained an established footing in academia eventually becoming leaders in the most dominated outlets—media and government. The nature of their underlying philosophy, which even might be unknown to a number of them, has come all the way to being ubiquitous in current times; and this substratum of thinking is behind the majority of policy decisions across the board making those who fall on a different spectrum utterly confused or outright angry at what's going on.

The very articulate and exceptional psychologist Jordan Peterson, is currently developing a cult like following among these starving individuals who have had a glimpse with everything that is wrong with academia and todays culture. I'll admit I've not read any of his seemingly popular books, only watching many of his lectures and videos, but I think I have a substantial rough assessment of what he's all about, indeed we shouldn't be quick to dismiss him, he might turn out to be a decent critic and sage writer by the subsequent generation. His central concerns seem to be that there should be a balance between chaos and order, traditions have a role in civilizations, and the the development of the individual is fundamental. From the surface this seems like some good practical common sense, although it's nothing really new, Aurelius's private diary provides a timeless guide for this type of prudence written around nineteen centuries ago.

My last post I alluded to the idea that one can save some tremendous effort by going back to the classics to get a more experienced and objective account. Humanities and the general human condition is certainly the subject which yields the most profit by using this method, judging by their everlasting nature. For those feeling deprived from sources of right thinking and general development of character, I don't blame them, and Mr. Peterson deserves to be listened to; it's just optimal I believe, especially for those seeking out a holistic overview, to start surveying the past before getting enticed by our contemporary intellectuals. Our minds are just like our mouths, it wants the ripen sweets more so than the ones that are only getting a chance to blossom.

It’s great to see more and more people promoting the work of Jordan Peterson. You are correct in your summary of his views, but perhaps his greatest point is that he promotes the virtues of taking responsibility and accountability seriously and not being a victim and wallowing in self pity.

Agreed, it seems these ideas have become novel to many and perhaps someone like Peterson can the ones who could gain from them.
