"Waste Bank" and the Creativity from Children at Nusa Village

in #education6 years ago

Is the rubbish always worthless??

Perhaps for us, whenever we hear the word "junk", we will think it's a disgusting thing, which has no meaning. However, for children in Nusa Village Lhoknga, they have processed waste to be used as various kinds of art, which has artistic value.

I had the opportunity to visit this village a few days ago, witnessed the children have been trained to clean the village from the garbage and organize a clean environment, without any illness.

Teaching creativity like this may not be an easy thing, because it takes skills in educating children. Moreover, the children in this village are children who come from the underprivileged, and orphans. But I've witnessed the determination of the mentors in educating the children here.

Well, then what's more value? Of the many results of their creativity, my eyes are fixed on a "garbage bank"/ "Waste bank" that has been colored with beautiful artistry. Just look what they do with a used bottle cap, below:

Take a look at some of the pictures I took below, this paper was formed with a bottle cap, giving beauty to the walls of a hall, which is used to receive guests.

The spirit of caring for the environment is grown by faithful mentors who don't expect any kind of compensation, because for the mentors, making their students creative is a bland thing.

Then, from where all the bottle caps are taken?

This is a plastic waste shelter, they have removed the bottle cap from the bottle. This can all have value, if sold to the collectors of plastic, later, when this plastic bottle already collected a lot.

An active mentor teaches students, is in discussion with a guest I bring here. He is one of those who care about the environment in Gampong Nusa.

These are the children that I mean.

We give them a little money, as support to continue their creativity in Nusa Village. They were very cheerful, among them children of tsunami victims in 2004 ago. They have lost their parents, their siblings, and now they can smile.

These are some award certificates which they received from several agencies who came to visit here.

Windows of the world

This is what I like best, which makes me love the kids here, they have a library with a huge collection of books, is in a house on stilts, which is often used as a place to teach in this village. Hopefully this can be an example for other villages, and Aceh is getting known in the future.
