Venus, Earth's hot sister

in #education8 years ago

Hello Steemians!

Today I'd exploring Venus often referred to as the hot sister planet of Earth!

Venus is the 2nd closest planet to the Sun, after Mercury and is with size and mass very similar to Earth, therefore it is sometimes called Earth's sister planet.

It was named after the Roman goddess of beauty, and has throughout history been associated with beauty and love.

It is a terrestrial planet with a diameter of 12,100 km, just 650 km less then Earth, and a mass of 4.8675×10^24 kg which is about 81% of the mass of Earth.

Despite the similarities to Earth in shape size and mass, Venus is actually very different from our planet.
The temperature on Venus surface is about 450 °C, making it the the hottest planet in the Solar System.

There is not much information on the internal structure of Venus, yet it is speculated that because of it's similarities to Earth it also consists of a core, mantle and crust.

The atmosphere on Venus is made out of about 3.5% nitrogen and about 96.5% carbon dioxide and small amounts of some other gases.

Fun fact, not only is Venus the hottest planet in the Solar System but it also has the longest rotation period, 243 days it takes for Venus to complete a rotation which would account for " 1 day".
