Why do you need to buy a lot of books?

in #education6 years ago

Somehow I wondered if it was worth buying more art and scientific books than you had time to read? After some conclusions, I concluded that you only need to stop buying when there is no desire to read. In the opposite case, if you allocate at least 3-4 hours a week for reading, then you can safely go to the nearest city bookstore. Please note that an unread library does not make you a lazy ignoramus

Just today, your interests are a bit different, they have changed, and next month you will return and read a book with several bookmarks already, because it simply may not be due to age.

The environment of unread books is useful, strange as it may sound. Naseem Taleb explained it in his bestseller, the book "The Black Swan". The author expounded his thoughts in the form of a joke about the legendary library, which contained 30 thousand volumes.

Do you think Eko read each of these books?

Of course not. However, these books all the time reminded him of everything that he does not yet know. The library surrounding him not only supported his intellectual thirst, but also the desire to learn more, that is, curiosity. Regular replenishment of the collection with scientific and artistic books can be a hobby for you, why not, because people buy things, make something out of the ordinary for you.

And this is all for good reason. Over the years, the collection will be replenished, as well as knowledge. The outlook will become wider, and, no matter how strange it may sound, more unread books will appear on the bookshelf, well, and the more they will threaten you. This collection of yours can be called an anti-library. It is the most effective way, and the right way to remind you of the endless amount of information that you learn, whether you know it or not.

If you live and create with such reminders, constantly striving to get better, then you will daily push yourself to a certain intellectual so-called humility that helps people make the right decisions and pushes them to study.

People do not bring resumes that tell about their bad sides or why they have no work experience. It’s a paradox, but the people who are most confident in their abilities are most often incompetent, and the smart and diligent are the opposite. The easier it is for you to admit your inability, the sooner you will learn what you do not know.

Stop scolding yourself for buying more books every year or month than you can read them. What you think about it, pushing yourself into the frame, trying to change - it means a lot more. The immense list of new unread books reminds you that you are still not sufficiently educated. And this awareness allows you to be one step ahead of most people.

Sort:

Reading books is essential for a human wellbeing, never stop learning!

Just one more reminder that I need to start to read again. I like this simple idea buy the books you will read them when you can.

This changed my thoughts a bit. @@@cicisaja has chosen your post in her payitforward curation complication post.

really interesting object @sapiens4media, I only buy books that I really need to read and better go to the library to find uncommon books that I really need to read to feed my mind. well.. I have a thousand books at my parents home, I bought 2 books that I really like to read, keep one for my self and other one to donate to any school or reading groups around my town.

and I think... that's okay if you buy more books than you can read, as long as you let anyone else rreading it too. what do you think?

Yes, this is really great.

Strange thoughts for sure. I'd never thought of unread books being that much of an asset. I do more writing than reading at the moment - though I read a lot online throughout the course of my day.

You remind me of my ex's father and grandparents. The grandparents moved from a large house in London to a small flat in Oxford. There were comments at the time about how many THOUSAND books were removed from the house!

His father was dating after the death of his wife. He, at one point, was seeing someone seriously enough to have us come and join them for dinner. I took one look around the house and knew it could not last - there were no BOOKS!!! (I turned out to be right.)

Almost forgot to tell you...
I found your post thanks to @cicisaja's Pay it Forward curation contest entry! Keep up the great work!
