Oral Translation Method Influences My Students' Learning Outcomes + One of My Students' Presentations

Hi, steemians and educators...

Last semester, I taught English for economics purpose and I faced a problem on my students. Most of them were lack of vocabularies so that their learning outcomes were not so good after having the first quiz test. After seeing that case, I thought that I had to change my teaching method to increase my students' vocabulary. I tried to find out from TEFL books, and I found Oral translation method that could be easy to be implemented.

Before I implemented Oral translation method, I taught my students about a basic system of translation and etc. Then, I asked them to download Indonesian Islamic economics journals to be translated into English. Here, I asked them not to write their translation, but they have to read and interpret one of the journals orally.

After I implemented that method, their learning outcomes were much better and improved significantly. You may check one of their presentations in the video below!

If you are an English teacher, you may try that method. It will significantly influence your students.

Semester yang lalu, saya mengajar bahasa Inggris khusus ekonomi dan saya menghadapi masalah pada siswa saya. Kebanyakan dari mereka kekurangan kosa kata sehingga hasil belajar mereka tidak begitu baik setelah tes kuis pertama. Setelah melihat kasus itu, saya berpikir bahwa saya harus mengubah metode pengajaran saya untuk meningkatkan kosa kata mereka.

Saya mencoba mencari tahu dari buku TEFL, dan saya menemukan metode Oral Translation dan cukup mudah diterapkan. Sebelum saya menerapkan metode terjemahan Lisan, saya mengajar murid-murid saya tentang sistem dasar terjemahan dan sebagainya. Kemudian, saya meminta mereka untuk mendownload jurnal ekonomi Islam Indonesia untuk diterjemahkan ke dalam bahasa Inggris.

Di sini, saya meminta mereka untuk tidak menulis terjemahannya, tapi mereka harus mempresentasikan salah satu jurnal secara lisan.Setelah saya menerapkan metode itu, hasil belajar mereka jauh lebih baik dan meningkat secara signifikan.
