Education does not, as far as I am concerned, subvert faith like certain dissenters portray. By the grace of God, I was privileged to train in a medical science-inclined discipline and my grasp of science has rather reinforced my belief in the Almighty God who has outclassed every empirical evidence science has come up with to date. Science by its stark limitation thus proves God. Therefore, my faith is built up, and I believe the more!

If another ‘educated’ person chooses the path of confused and rambling carnal logic does not mean that learning misled that person. No, that individual WILLFULLY misled himself through the delusion of self-will and his own presuppositions. Why? Because through empirical evidence, science confirmed its limitations, exalting the lord of creation.

But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to your virtue knowledge. 2Peter 1:5 (NKJV)

Selwyn Hughes wrote in one edition of Every Day with Jesus that ‘The knowledge the apostle Peter talks about in 2 Peter 1:5 is not the knowledge that comes from studying any system of education devised by the world but from an acquaintance with God and his word.

There is nothing wrong, of course, in seeking to gain a good secular education, but we must differentiate between secular knowledge and spiritual knowledge. A person can be highly educated but be quite ignorant when it comes to the really important issues of life.

Lloyd George, a former British Prime Minister, once said, ‘Education without God makes clever devils.’ Today we have some very clever devils emerging from our colleges and universities.’

Nevertheless, secular education can sometimes be stronger prison than any jail!

T.D. Jakes in his book Loose That Man and Let Him Go said, ‘God plants an infinitely curious mind within every little child and adolescent. As they grow older, many children bend to indifference and ignorance, while others surrender to scorn and punishment, and eventually most will finally succumb to a ‘formal education’ that will quench their natural hunger for knowledge.’

On the other hand, spiritual knowledge pays inestimable dividends for the studious workman. A workman, as a labourer in the Lord’s vineyard, should be both knowledgeable and productive. If he is truly preoccupied in the field of the world then he needs to be equipped primarily through the methodology of systematic word study. Therefore, man of God, study with devotion in order to get the stamp of ‘Quality Certified.’

Brethren, we cannot escape rigorous study, if we must manifest! Are you ready to undertake keen and instructive study? Or has your study-muscle atrophied from the incapacitation of lack of exercise? Here is the prompter you require: it is time to study to become approved with God. The earnest expectation of the workmen emblazoned with the stamp of ‘Quality Certified’. This stamp is a sort of stamp of endorsement, of excellence; the stamp of a vessel that has scaled the Lord’s rigorous Quality Assurance procedure.
