Education as a concept covers the life of man and for this, it attract different meaning with different people in a different situations. However, the term 'education' could be said to have originated from two latin words 'educere' and 'educare'.

Educere means to DRAW OUT. From this derivative, it is therefore suggested that the meaning can not be confined to what takes place in the school alone which is futher shows that a person could be educated without attending the formal school system.

Educare on its own means to NOURISH. From this derivative , education is seen as the process of helping each individual to live the fullest life he/she is capable of living. From all this meaning and explaination, EDUCATION is the process of replacing an empty mind with an open one.

Life started at conception in every individual and ended after death and it is divided into stages. We have the, infancy, babyhood, childhood, adolenscences, adulthood

E B Castle (1965) once defines education as

Everything that happens to man from the day he was born to the day he die

Starting from the infancy stage, it well believe that the baby is having an empty mind. Despite the fact that he/she was born with a lot of innate potentials. Innate potentials in the sense that there are certain or specific skills that he/she is naturally endowered with. Such as;

• Ability to talk
• Ability to walk
• Ability to eat
• Ability to read and write and to compute simple arithemetic and so on...

All these will not be achieve in a day, it will take some process and time. The process and time here can be regarded as learning which is the fundamental scope of education. The baby first agent of socialization is the mother who will give him/her the educare.

First and foremost, the baby start by learning the mothers tongue and most of the time trys to speak it with passage of time. The ability is innate in him/her but without educare by the mother and other family members, he /she will find it very difficult to exhibit such skills. This will help us to realize that EDUCATION sustain LIFE.
