The role of the government in improving the quality of educational services for children

Since 2015, Indonesia has budgeted trillions of rupiah for rural development and is referred to as The Village Fund. This fund is managed by the Village Government and is channelled through the respective District Government. For 2017, every village received 800 million to 1 billion rupiahs. One of the priority areas for the use of village funds is for improving social services, for example, health services, women's welfare, water supply and early childhood education services.

To improve the quality of education services and to get the most from the allocated budget, villages can undertake the following activities:

1. Building Educational Facilities for Children.

Villages must have facilities that support children's educational services. This not only refers to buildings, but to other resources to, like sports fields and equipment and learning material.

2. Provide qualified teachers.

Teachers are an important instrument in teaching and learning. A qualified teacher will produce quality children. To hire teachers who are concerned and truly care for the children, the village can provide scholarships to teachers in the villages and use the budget to help them live comfortably while caring for the younger generations.

3. Give appreciation to children.

Make learning fun for children and praise their achievements. Competitions that include writing, painting, dancing, and reading are a fun way to motivate children to learn and practice their talents, and not much funding is required. Simply keep the competition healthy and fun and the children will be encouraged to increase the quality of education through their own devises.

Conclusion

In addition to the three points above, as an added support to a village’s educational services, they should also use their budget to improve health services for children in the village. Healthy children will have the energy to learn and grow. Provision of nutritious supplements for both the child and the child's parent should be a priority in the villages. The correct expenditure of the budget will have a positive effect on human development in the village.
