Is My Child Learning Enough?
When a child goes to school everyday, one of the questions that goes through the mind of the parents is are they really learning.
When a child goes to a public school and is constantly tested, maybe through test and results, many parents would wait on the results from test papers and report cards and if they are good enough then their child is really learning.
Now Let’s Face Home Schooling..
Home schooling makes it more complicated and difficult to tell if the child is really learning, the problem is that homeschool students tend to not be tested as often as the public school students. But then is this really a problem? And is the report card the only way to know if a student is learning?
How much time?
Home schooling takes much less time than public schooling and this makes it difficult to tell if a child is learning enoug.Homeschooled children generally do not spend as much time on a particular topic as traditionally educated students because they are neither ahead or behind their classmates.some reasons for this is that the homeschooled child is receiving a straight one to one attention. They don’t have to wait for other students to meet up,the attention is only on them.if a student catches up with a particular topic,he or she can move onto the next right??
In many stated the traditional education is approximately 180school days,we can say for each subject an hour of instruction per day for 180days or 180hours per subject.now let’s ponder on this question. Is a public school hour is instruction really an hour? Students will move from Class to class,to the rest room, play ground, talking, chating with friends, the hour must b shorter, atleast 45mins by these activities taking place and time to settle down for lectures.
This situation isn’t the same for the homeschooled.when was the last time you heard of a traditionally educated students actually finishing a complete text book in a year.It is actually safe to say a home schooled student can probably cover more material in a school day than a traditional educated student can.
Test
The home school student do lot take as many tests as a public school students do.but then as my sister would always say examination is not a true test of knowledge and I would say never underestimate a student ability to cheat in a test 😂😂 ofcourse this is why you notice in some places graduates might not be able to construct a complete sentence.
In some cases some students understands how to take tests well even if they do not understand the subject matter.
Meanwhile other students are poor test takers and do not do well under the pressures of timed test.A low score doesn’t mean a child is dull, test only test their testing abilities.
You can actually tell if your child is learning, you will see it on their faces, and tell from their attitude, and conversations.
In conclusion as a parent or teacher it is possible to see the student in all stages of learning.you don’t have to depend on report card and school term results from their day to day activities you would tell if your child is actually learning and help him out.
Amazing post sis. A must read for every one interested in children education.
