This is Reason Why Fire is Lost with Water

Anyone would have known, for the fire is submerged by water. When a fire broke out, the firefighters used a water spray to stop the "rooster" from eating burnt houses. The question is, why use water? No other?

There is always an answer to every question. Actually, not only water (H2O) chemical compounds can extinguish the fire. There are many other chemical compounds that can be used to extinguish the fire. Call it gas CO2, N2, or HCFC (hydrochlorofluorocarbon) which is usually used in fire extinguisher tubes. Unfortunately, to get it, you need to spend money that is not small, that too in limited quantities. Another case with water. During this day is not the dry season, you will get the water in abundance and cheap cheap, maybe even free if you take it from the river or well. Therefore, a wise thing, if firefighters use water as its ultimate weapon when fighting against fire.

Fire needs three things to survive, namely: fuel, oxygen, and temperatures high enough to start a combustion reaction. After all three joined in, a continuous chemical reaction began that would make it all burnt by itself.

Then, what to do with water's ability to extinguish the fire? To extinguish the fire, you must break one of the links of the combustion reaction. Water has the ability to stop the required oxygen intake of fire to start the combustion reaction. By pouring water into a burning place, the water will "envelop" the fire so that the oxygen cycle required by the fire to initiate the combustion reaction is halted.

In addition, water also has excellent special properties in absorbing heat. In other words, water is an excellent cooler. One kilogram of water can absorb 1000 calories of heat before the temperature rises one degree Celsius.

Any substance or object requires different energies to make it "hotter". To increase the temperature of one degree Celsius of mercury by one kilogram, it takes 32.9 calories; while benzene is 249.9 calories; wood 420.5 calories; and 468.1 calorie olive oil.

One thing is certain, a little water can absorb the heat from the fire before making it boil, let alone until it turns into steam. However, when a fire occurs due to electrical short circuit, never try to extinguish it by sprinkling it with water. The reason, because water is a conductor (conductor) is very good for electricity. By splashing water, you are endangering your own life as well as others from the risk of electric shock. Therefore, when there is a severe fire due to electrical short circuit, make sure the electric current around the scene has been disconnected before trying to extinguish it with water.
