in #education7 years ago (edited)

Today is exactly 35 years after biggest battle of freedom in communistic Poland. 31.08.1982 was a day when Poland was under communist control and couple of months after martial law introduction. That time was very hard for polish people, because government restricted normal life in an attempt to crush political opposition. Thousands of people were jailed without charge and the biggest opposition movement - Solidarity has been delegalized. It meant that August Agreements from 1980 have been broken. That anger people and they wanted to demonstrate dissatisfaction. 31st of August, in 2nd anniversary of agreement concluded at Gdansk Shipyard, was great occasion to do that.
Government knew that people were going to demonstrate, so militia and army were prepared to stop demonstration. In almost all cities in Poland Poles rised against communists. The biggest battles took place in Wroclaw where more than 50 thousands people took to the streets. They build barricades, they threw rocks and bottles with gas against militia cars. They fight for freedom, it was just like a war.
Fights took place in almost all main streets, squares and bridges in Wroclaw. According to statistics approximately 8000 soldiers and police officers tried to stop demonstration. Many people hurts and had serious injuries, 3 people died. The battle started around 2pm and finished 1am next day. After fights more than 1000 people was jailed.
