Prime numbers: Importance in everyday life

in #education7 years ago

Hello friends, I'll talk a little about the importance of prime numbers in life, today many think that math is pure theory and we only use it in school and in college. In fact the mathematics if we apply it in our lives in this case will speak of the prime numbers.

The point is that decomposing a number of many decimals into prime numbers is a computationally heavy and time-consuming problem (whereas the opposite step, given a set of prime numbers, multiplying them is trivial). When a computational problem arises in such a way that in one sense the operation is easy (verification) and in the opposite difficult direction (code breaking) a good encryption algorithm can be constructed. Numerous things on the internet would not exist without those algorithms of encryption based on prime numbers.

Another old application of the prime numbers is that in manufacturing two geared wheels the number of teeth of the first and second are relative prime numbers, that minimizes wear in the event of minor manufacturing failures, since each tooth of the first gear will end up being In contact with each and every one of the following gears (which does not happen if the number the greatest common divisor of the number of teeth of the two gears is greater than one).

But then the prime numbers were discovered about 3000 years ago just waiting for the gears or the internet to be invented? Well, no, prime numbers if you will, a divine whim within the whole numbers. And like almost any other mathematical object is an inexhaustible source of new problems that one can pose. Although there would be no technological application of them would be just as interesting. What matter to mathematicians and other scientists is not the prime numbers themselves, but the ideas, techniques, and reasoning that were created to solve some prime numbers problems. These ideas, techniques, and reasoning then served many other scientific and technological applications. Prime numbers are only an excuse to pose problems that extend our knowledge of mathematical techniques that serve both to describe the physical world and to perfect the technology.

good idea @syarrf

great post^^, followed u and upvoted some of your posts can u do that to for me pls :)

Great post. The part about gears was amazing. Thanks.

awesome post which were liked by me and upvoted

V.Nice ...Spread The Education..

i was reading somewhere that all prime numbers are either 1 more or 1 less than a multiple of six... they form a maltese cross if you lay them out on a spiral with 24 spokes... hadn't stopped to think about numbers with decimal points being prime though... do they exist? i thought primes had to be integers...
