My fourteenth week of @matkodurko's What did I learn yesterday? #learnandearn challenge, based on an idea by Tim Ferriss ('Tools of Titans' book).
Learn & Earn Week 18

Monday 25th March - Walter Rothschild, who created a museum at Tring, was an insanely rich nutter. He was a child of the legendary banking family, but only ever wanted to own a zoo. So he did. He had lots of cassowaries and Galapagos tortoises and wallabies and kiwi birds and other random wildlife. When he went to Cambridge University he couldn't bear to leave the kiwi birds, so took them with him. In 1937 he died and left to the nation a small but perfectly formed museum, which is now part of the Natural History Museum.

Tuesday 26th - 410 to 192
The European parliament voted in a landslide — 410 to 192 — to eliminate daylight saving time starting in 2021. Each of the 28 member countries will get to decide whether it wants to remain on a setting of “permanent summer” or “permanent winter”, which has a Game of thrones feel about it to me. "Summer is coming!"

Friday 27th - A fungal disease afflicting amphibians has spread thanks to human trade, and it’s claiming species around the world. It’s responsible for the decline of at least 501 amphibians, 90 of which are now presumed extinct. Those species that declined account for 6.5 percent of total described amphibians, meaning that this once unknown fungus is one of the most destructive invasive species of all time based on the collapse in biodiversity it has caused. Has anyone checked on Kermit?

Saturday 28th - Bonnie Dobson wrote the song 'Morning Dew', which was printed in the magazine 'Broadside' in 1962. Five years later, Tim Rose recorded the song with a more 'rock' arrangement and gave himself a co-writing credit. Ms Dobson has been unhappy about this ever since, which is reasonable given the number of recordings since then where she's only earned HALF the songwriter's credits. Tim Rose also claimed that 'Hey Joe' (by Billy Roberts, also 1962) was a 'trad.' song so his cover lists him as sole songwriter.
Methinks Mr Rose was a bit of a chancer.
More on this in a 'Shirt on Sunday' post later this month.
