Sociology of education deals with the relationship between education and the society.
The society is a micro system that comprises of so many systems, education inclusive. It is also the collection of people living together with common goals, aims and objectives.

There are three forms of education namely;

1. Formal education
2. Informal education
3. Non formal education

FORMAL EDUCATION: this form of education takes place under a systematized arrangement; there is plan and curriculum for it.
INFORMAL EDUCATION: unlike formal education, it doesn’t have a curriculum and isn’t really organized. This type of education makes you what you are
NON FORMAL EDUCATION: this type of education is received to be able to survive in a given community. It is received outside the school setting

SOCIALIZATION is the process by which a child is initiated into the cultural norms of the society. It is a continuous process starting from birth to death, this means everyone belongs to a social group
The member of every social group will be expected to play certain roles and behave in defined, expected ways in order for the group to survive and retain her identity. Agents of socialization include the home, school, peer group, religious institution and mass media.

SOCIAL STRATIFICATION is the way people are ranked hierarchically in the society, it consists of strata each of which relates with each other. Apart from strata, we also have class which is based on the status i.e the role the individual will perform in the society. We have the; lower class, middle class, and upper class. Some of the conditions used to stratify people are power, wealth, authority e.t.c

SOCIAL CLASS AND EDUCATION
The value of education for job market, position, access to opportunity, income, wealth and power cannot be over emphasized.

Therefore, education has an access to wealth creation and life chances through acquisition of credentials is highly significant. The asset and capital interest in class opportunity are of a measureable value to class status and power through the acquisition of academic qualification. Because of this distinction, there is nothing like egalitarialism and equal educational opportunity in most society of the world.
