rethink whether everything that is now considered to be “a must learn knowledge” is really that important and whether its usefulness will not fall off even more in the future version of our civilization

I think the majority of students all over the world actually think about this almost everyday. I mean, the amount of things I was forced to learn in school that turn out to be useless is huge, the same happened in the university as well, in the end, we only end up using just a small part of the things we learn with our academic studies.

Besides, with the fast paced world we have, a "must learn knowledge" will probably change every decade or even every few years, so it is not a permanent set of information, but a changing or dynamic set, that adapts to society as it changes with time.

They do think about it, yet there is no pressure whatsoever on the educational system. Therefore it seems like every one cares up to the point when the educational system directly influences the individual. Also the majority of the students I know just “followed the orders” (studied only what they had to). They did care only because they could blame something, yet they didn’t do anything against even back then, which ultimately slows down the mental evolution of the whole humanity.

I completely agree with you. The only thing I can do is to live by example. I have never really succumbed to the “game” that educational systems established (only the necessary minimum) and now I can even write a “scientific article” that will also tackle that issue. I can only hope that it will somehow bring awareness to this and show that it not only wastes time to keep up with the "Renaissance man", but it actually HINDERS our abilities and potential in the present and possibly even in future times.

which ultimately slows down the mental evolution of the whole humanity.

Well, people are always able to learn whatever they want without having a professor ordering them around. I have learn a lot of useful things in the internet, much more than the ones I learn by following traditional academic studies.

I think traditional education will be less common in the coming years as more people realize they can learn much faster, and more efficiently if they go on their own. But since academic studies will keep providing a good image to the people that finish them, they will continue to exists even though much of the things we learn from them are useless.

The people that have the most success in the world are people that managed to learn things on their own, not necessarily inside a class room. Since our generation have access to more information than ever, the amount of people that will realize this will be unprecedented.

In fact, now that we are talking about this, I remember years ago an important guy in Silicon Valley (I think) was saying that studying computer science was mostly a waste of time, I wish I could find that article again but I don't remember the name of the person, he said it was a waste of time because having that diploma would not mean anything about the quality of the work that person would do, and that the best programmers were people who self taught how to code.

If the self-taught people will manage to be more effective, the dominancy of schools and universities will diminish with their success i think. But not all the people will be able to self-study, nor it is the most effective way. It enables people to access a lot of selected information, but the need for trully good teachers will be even bigger, when the self-studying will play a prime role. The need to categorize the learned information well and to prehaps pinpoint the most important information, or to pinpoint the connections in-between them could be the new teachers role.
