Importance of mathematical modeling in engineering
The importance of structuring a teaching model for university students, as far as mathematical modeling applied to engineering is concerned, can be established and based on the following methodological proposal:
Exploratory initial phase:
In this phase the student will try to discover the issues that are a problem within his research topic, in which he will be able to adapt a mathematical model associated with the problem and in this way open the way for the other phases of the research.
Research phase:
Once the problem has been discovered and the design of the mathematical model has been adapted to be applied to this problem, the student should enter a researchable phase, where he / she will try to find the most related background, with the sole intention of having an orientation to obtain different ways to collect data worthy of an own investigation in which it can give answer to a problem of magnitude, and if possible of a scientific-technical nature.
Summary Phase:
I recommend this phase to collect the most important points of the research, and translate them into a framework of general conclusions and recommendations, in which all the lessons learned should be recorded based on a research of ideal characteristics to give answers to problems within science, technology and engineering.
Final reflection
Finally I recommend to raise the need to think about mathematical modeling, as an important alternative, where the student builds a "reality" that responds to current demands, taking into account a specific knowledge and in this way generate a gear between mathematical knowledge and Engineering, under which they can respond to current demands within the field of science, technology and engineering.
