The advantages and shortage of hybrid rice

If we look at the picture above certainly as a farmer of course we will be amazed by the figure of the rice with super long panicles and the number of grains above the average.
Hybrids are crosses between two genetically different rice elders. If the elders are properly selected then the hybrid of the derivative will have a higher vigor and yield power than the two elders.
The advantages of hybrid rice are:
- Higher yield than regular superior rice yields
- Vigor is better so it is more competitive against weeds.
The shortage of hybrid rice is:
- The price of seed is expensive.
- Farmers have to buy new seeds every planting, because the seeds of the previous harvest can not be used for the next crop.
- Not every strain or variety can be used as a hybrid rice parent.
Although initially there are many concerns, hybrids are now available with good grain quality and better resistance to pests and diseases.
