Scientists have discovered that nutrients are formed in the plant's own leaves.

Plant roots take oxygen particles from the soil, while stems and leaves absorb it from the air.

In forests and steppes, where a large number of different types of plants grow, soils do not lose their fertility and only accumulate it.

This was possible thanks to the microcosm located inside the ground; Several living organisms are actively processing organic matter and minerals in it. A cover of grass, trees and shrubs protects the soil from drying out, creates favorable conditions for the inhabitants of the microworld and serves as a source of nutrition. What is vegetable food?

The process of creating nutrients from carbon dioxide and water under the influence of sunlight is called photosynthesis.

Photosynthesis occurs in the leaves, but other parts of the plant also participate in this process:

• the root absorbs solutions of mineral salts from the soil;
• the stem drives these solutions to the leaves;
• the leaves absorb carbon dioxide from the air and form sugar and starch.

During photosynthesis, carbon dioxide is absorbed and oxygen is released.

Organic substances (sugar and starch) enter all the organs of the plant. They are used for different purposes:

• body growth;
• to breathe;
• for seed germination;
• deposited (in fruits, roots, tubers).

Plants are a source of nutrients and oxygen for animals and humans.
