Let's teach from childhood the importance of gender equity

Gender equity goes beyond physical differences. This equity gains relevance in the defense of rights, in other words, gender equity means that women and men must enjoy equal conditions, in their human, social and cultural rights, benefiting from equal opportunities, and will agree with the characteristics and specific needs of the different areas in which they interact.

When we speak of equity, it implies the participation of all as an elemental force to strengthen that concept and in this way it can prevail and remain unbreakable, since this theme moves in schools, in work, in politics and in opportunities to development, therefore this struggle must be consolidated.

We want to make students understand what gender rights are, in order to appropriate them and learn to respect themselves and respect others regardless of gender.

We must promote respect for women and equity because, as educators, we have a mission of education and training. It is in our hands to move forward so that children feel happy and learn to respect each other, to be respected, valued and loved, to learn to value the other person; its importance lies in the elimination of discrimination between them.

How do you explain gender equality in classes?


Building that equity, from its simplest concepts to the most complex ones. A very easy and simple task for children to understand, learn and know that men and women differ in appearance perhaps, but have the same value.

For the explanation, the educator must write on the blackboard, what is a woman? and what is a man ?. Where each one will be placed the qualities understanding that the capabilities of development are the same for both men and women.

Example:

Men: It is to be a person with values, with strength, protective figure, workers and responsible.

Women: Women are synonymous with: struggle, strength and admiration, is someone sensitive, hardworking and protective.

We want to show that both have the same rights and that the activities are the same.

Gender equity will depend on the ability of empathy that children develop from an early age, which will help form a more just society.

Activities to be done to learn to respect gender equity

It is important an intentional action that allows to see how children think, their perception and how they learn to coexist in terms of equity.

There are many methods to learn about human rights, which include:

Workshop on gender equality. This has to be done according to the ages of the children and in the degree to which they are studying.

How can you start:

  • Recognition of the body.
  • Self recognition of who they are.
  • Where do they come from as a human being?
  • The learning of how the body develops and its capabilities.
Children after receiving the induction for knowledge about gender equality, can be presented in groups of four (04), to expose what they think about the rights and duties that should be exercised, if they are equal, or if on the contrary, they should correspond, to a single gender, man or woman.

Children with this workshop learn to be more mature and recognize equity, both for daily tasks and for the most complex in terms of work.

Activity: Project for equality.

It is based on the realization of a project alluding to men and women, girls are responsible for drawing the male silhouette and children the silhouette of the female figure.

It is intended that children exemplify what they think of both sexes. Situate in the drawing, what they like, what they do, how they act, how they dress and in this way be able to explain in detail how similar they are and that the work can be done by both although the physical is different.

Activity: Film in the school based on gender equity.

It is about presenting a series of films aimed at respecting rights and equality.

The group of children meets to watch a film, which may be related to: non-violence against women, school violence and the prevention of bullying.

When the film ends, a space should be created to explain what has happened there, create concepts and give opinions to improve coexistence.

The objective is to sow in the students that seed that will bear fruit so that they can live together in society.

All differences between boys and girls must be annulled, their knowledge reprogrammed and this is learned in school.
