Today in Ed's Garage: repairing the dreaded oil leak on the family van.

There comes a point in most cars lives when they start to leak. Sometimes it can be cost prohibitive to repair, but in my minivans' case the fix only cost $65 and about 40 minutes of fun.
We really don't want to leak oil into the enviroment either. Anything on the road drains directly into the river. Then the fish eat the oil, the racoons eat the fish, the cows eat the racoons and we eat the cows-it's the circle of life.

Yeah, I know what you're thinking:a cool guy like Ed has a minivan? These things make perfect family vehicles, especially when you have more than two kids to haul around.

For a year now I knew there would be a problem with the transmission fluid cooler lines as they were damp. Well with the recent cold snap here they did start to drip.

Todays helper in the garage will be this silver 1960 Canada 1 dollar coin.

Actually my son Ben will be hanging out in the garage with me. I'm trying hard to not let my kids grow up to be donuts so they will be treated to real world problems all the time.

There they are, the leaky lines.

For this job all we need are a few basic tools.

20180107_171953.jpg

And a drain bucket.

20180107_171934.jpg

Here you can see where the lines attach to the transmission.

And where they connect to the cooler.

Slide back the little plastic retainer and remove this tiny metal clip. Then the line pulls right out.

20180107_172052.jpg

See the little slot where the clip fits.

Old and new. Installation is reverse of removal.

After some clean-up it's time to check the transmission oil level...but wait there's no dipstick just this silly plug! I'll have to borrow the tool from work one evening to ensure the oil level is correct.

The last step is a quick vacuum because my wife and kids certainly won't do it. What's this hiding under the front seat? My shoes I thought I lost at Waskeseiu lake in August.

Job well done folks. Keep your vehicles running clean and safe.

⭐Here's the funny thing-normally I get paid to repair other peoples vehicles. Well you're going to push the upvote arrow and pay me to fix my own!🤣

You've got a great talent. Keep teachin your kids. Well done Ed.

Most people wouldn't think a guy named Grizz would drive a minivan either. Even so that is a subject i can neither confirm nor deny.

It happens to the best of us. Hang in there.

That is hilarious... i have a totally different motto tho... because i used to build race cars / classic cars and buy and flip them im so over it that now a days if its gonna be over 200 or so i end up getting rid of the car and getting a new one... long story thats understandable if you were to hear lol.... im a mom of 4 and had a built 2001 cobra for a daily driver..

Thats a crazy mom taxi for sure.

I know right... I got comments every single day on and the little kids would say wow cool car and give me thumbs up it was so cute

Terrific post and photos!! Lol..No way your kids would be donuts! It is great that they learn and you take time to teach them. They will certainly appreciate all they learn as adults! Especially when it comes to cars and cooking!!

There are way too many lost skills now isn't there. Thanks for visiting deer😁

You're very welcome and that is sadly true too often!

It's good to teach your kids to fix things!

This parenting thing is the biggest job of all isn't it.
