Your distinction between expat and immigrant was also interesting. I think of myself as an expat but I have no intention of going back to UK. Maybe it's time to reconsider how I label myself...
A lot of people don't know where it is because it's so tiny! It's a really special place for sure.
I was surprised to learn of that distinction too, and I'm still in the process of retraining that thought. I've no doubt it's origins are in anti-immigrant sentiment, so I try to spread the word. It's funny because I find that a lot of immigrants to Belize from the US and Europe are very anti-immigrant when they talk about issues of their homeland. Kind of ironic!
