Oh I love the questions you ask and your point of view. I can only agree, we can only develop our freedom, but as you write we are not very free when we need to fit into the norms in our society.

Glad to have sparked something. Perhaps these norms feel good and natural to some and can be an expression of their freedom. Only if they are expressed with the awareness that conforming is a CHOICE.
