Steemit Literacy Center

"... nurturing young steemians"

Another great initiative from @thegreens this week is the Steemit Literacy Center which is strives to nurture young steemians to use steemit to blog, network and earn.
After benefiting from the power of steemit, @thegreens has sought to train and subscribe at least 100 young people on Steemit before the year ends.
The Steemit Literacy Center is here to introduce, educate and empower 100 young Cameroonians to use the steemit social networking platform to blog, network and earn; hence contribute to reduce youth unemployment and poverty among young people as well as promote creative writing.

Youth Unemployment and Poverty Statistics in Cameroon

Cameroon is a less developed country. The unemployment rate is at 30% and with seven out of 10 young people under-employed. Cameroon is ranked 153rd on the 2016 Human Development Index, and it is estimated that 48 percent of the population lives below the poverty line.
Poverty in Cameroon is largely a rural phenomenon with 55 percent of the country’s poor living in rural areas. About half of the people living in poor households are women and children under the age of 25. According to ILO, the percentage of unemployed female youth in Cameroon was 7.90 whereas male unemployment youth stood at 5.60 as of 2014. Generally, youth unemployment in Cameroon was 6.70 as of 2014. This is a major issue and this explains why @thegreens wants to use the Steemit Literacy Center to contribute to tackle the poverty and youth unemployment challenge.

The Steemit Literacy Center Training

Every month, we shall train 10 – 20 youths or non-governmental organizations using our four training modules that touch the following topics; Introduction to Cryptocurrency, Steem and Steemit (Creating and Managing a Steemit Account), Social Networking, and writing for the web.

How you can support the Steemit Literacy Center

We need your support for internet bill and electricity bill. @thegreens will pay the office rents and maintenance of the computers as well as provide volunteers to mentor the young steemians.
If we consider 1 SBD to be 1.3 USD, then our monthly Electricity bill will be approximately 11SBD and monthly internet bill 25SBD.
Internet and Electricity Bill will cost 36SBD. We still have 5 months before the year ends. This implies our total internet and electricity costs will be 180 SBD.
For five months, we can train and subscribe 100 young people on Steemit with 180SBD at the Steemit Literacy Center.

What a great project. I am ramping up something similar with Native Americans from the pueblo/reservation here. Only here a community center can provide the computers and utilities out of their regular budget, so my only expense is my time and any handouts I want to print. I'm happy to support your project. The money they can earn on Steemit will go so far there.

Thanks very much @indigoocean and i am happy that we are in this together. I really believe the money can earn on the steemit will greatly assist them to become better people in the future. Thanks for the support.

@artemislives you can learn more about the project here. Thanks for the words of inspiration and support and great to know you are nurturing your daughter.

Great to connect

This is a great initiative, I learned about this from @akomoajong who's the Cameroon contact I've been working with to see how we can promote Steemit in Cameroon. I direct affairs at @WAfrica and we are particularly interested in promoting blockchain adoption in Africa among other interest we hold.

I'll be glad to learn about the progress you guys make, you can contact me or work with @akomoajong to see how this initiative can get more into the Nigerian community.

Great to connect and glad to know there are like minded persons
