RE: How to Get the Fruit you Want from the Trees you Already Have: An Invitation to Grafting with Scions

in #ecotrain7 years ago

This is very useful, interesting and inspiring. I'm interested in grafting, but haven't tried it as it always seemed complicated. The tip of the 'stars or stones' is something I'd never heard about.

I have an apple tree and a pecan tree which don't give fruit or nuts. Can you suggest anything I could graft to them? It would be an interesting experiment and amazing to have a tree producing all different kinds of fruit. It's like a real life version of 'the faraway tree' by Enid Blyton.

Awesome, glad you found the info helpful! Isn't the stars and stones thing cool?
FIrst off, check the conditions the trees are growing in as they may not be too happy? If they are happy enough,
You have a lot of options on the apple: all the fruits listed above under Stars - like an asian pear, quince, different variety of apple, etc.

For the pecan, you could try an improved variety of pecan or an english walnut perhaps :)
