Yes, you're so right @riverflows. People don't want to hear when life's fantastic, but they also don't want to hear it when life's completely upside down. I still have to laugh about what my (Dutch) friend who also lives in Ireland once said when being asked: "How are ye?" At the cash register of the supermarket. She full-on told the lady: "Well, I just got my damn period, so I am suffering horribly, PMS and all. I'm a bitch 24/7 and my kids and boyfriend are suffering. Other than that, my car just broke down so I have to depend on this bitch to drive me around." LOL. The woman didn't know where to look, or how to respond. I think people just expect to hear a "Good", a "OK" or a "Not too bad" instead of the truth LOL.
