EcoTrain QOTW: Is the Death penalty the epitome of hypocrisy? Does an 'eye for an eye' have a place in the modern age, and what kind of message does this send to society?

ecoTrain Question Of The Week Launch post: Is the Death penalty the epitome of hypocrisy? Does an 'eye for an eye' have a place in the modern age, and what kind of message does this send to society?

A very heavy and a debatable QOTW I must say.

So here we are talking about all sorts of Capital Punishments, whether it is a Death penalty to a crime, or the other rules and fines and punishments laid by the Governments, Systems and the Powerful ones and are they justified.

First of all my opinion is all guilty people deserve punishment of some nature depending on the severity of their crimes and the conditions in which the crime is committed. Our judiciary systems have set some laws and punishment for the guilty and I am sure there has been a good thought over it before practicing it. So in my opinion the systems we have are not wrong, they have been set up with good intentions, but now the big question is how is it being implemented and is it being implemented in the most fair manner also considering the degree of punishment; if it is justified or not.

Dealth Penalty is not the Solution to curb Crimes
There are many heinous crimes being committed without any feelings of guilt and shame, criminals feel that what they have done is right. In such cases the Victims and the family of the victims will want justice and they are no wrong in their own way. There is a possibility that if they do not get justice through the set systems then there is a possibility that they would take that action in their hand and thus giving birth to one more crime. But at the same time a Murder for a Murder or a Rape for a Rape is not the solution and the penalty. Murder in the name of justice is as wrong as a murder in the form of violence.

No sane person commits a crime just for fun sake. When someone commits a crime there is a lot of insanity going on with the person due to whatever reasons, it can be due to one's upbringing or the social environment one is living in or the systems that one is living in or is forced upon. There is some very strong factor that drives one to commit a crime. If the person has good capability to think and take action then in the first place will never commit a crime. One commits a Crime with a very unstable mind and hence I would always like to show some empathy towards them. That can be also for a very heinous crime. There are times when a person becomes very vulnerable to situations and it is in that one blink of a moment when one commits a crime.

When some one commits a very heinous crime out first reaction is such people should be hanged up, and it is a very normal reaction but then what is the difference of insanity between that person and the so called sensible people who are out there to make all the judgement.
A fair advocacy and a chance need to be given to every victim and a space for improvement. One needs to understand that no one is born a criminal and hence my stake is that a Death Penalty is not justified under any circumstances, else it just become an other Murder for a Murder already done.

Death Penalty does not solve any problems towards the rate of crime. Cause no one does a crime in 100% senses and awareness. But at the same time it does not mean that the criminal does not get their share of punishment. At times I believe that a death is a much easier punishment then something that is given while keeping them alive.

The Lawmakers Jolly play
Where the Government systems are involved they are all driven by people who are desperate for power, fame and money and hence they try to bring in laws that would allow them to stay in complete command and authority. But then that's for people like us to realize and get vocal to fight these systems. Well but not all the governments are the same. Where I live thankfully the laws are same for everyone. In our country if someone breaks a traffic signal then be it whoever you are you will be locked up for a day, and like wise for all other crimes also.

Sadly there is so much wrong happening all around and sometimes we just feel helpless. There are some disgraceful human rights actions that happen in most of the nations and people are penalized for no reasons. It is the power that decides what is right and what is wrong at their convenience. The terrorist organizations are all funded by the rich, powerful and the so called elite society.

If we condemn the evil actions of someone and then we do the same in the name of punishment then we equally are monsters and that too of the worst category because the person who committed crime may have done it in complete insanity but we being in our sense are doing the same thing.

These Lawmakers, the rich and powerful, the terrorist organization have all started playing the role of God. It is utterly disgraceful that by each day the power is increasing and this is what we are passing on to our newer generations. Succumb to pressures and be treated as slaves (not literally).

My Summation to the Question
"Death Penalty" is something that should be abolished worldwide and Human Rights Commission needs to ensure that the same is not violated. But at the same time Justice needs to prevail and hence for that punishment of equal intensity depending on the degree of the crime needs to be given to Criminals so that the victim does not feel unjustified and have a need to take laws in their hand resulting into one more crime.

At the same time Lawmakers should work towards bringing peace and order in their state with reforms rather than instability and insecurity.

great answer, really! Very compassionate and true what you say .. there so so much more that can also be said, such as that only rich people can afford a decent legal defence.. so the justice system itself is totally messed up in many countries.. not to mention .. oh ill just have to write it in my post!! <3

Thanx Alex. You come up with some really mind openings topics. It triggers all our senses when we sit to write them. As you rightly say in your post "They don't really care about us", the change is we ourselves and no one else

In my country rich people who did crimes just always gets away with it like politicians and wealthy people that can afford to curb the law because they have the means to do it for their benefits so more often the poor people just lands on jail because they can't defend themselves. @nainaztengra

My dear it is the same story everywhere. Money speaks all languages:(
