Spiritual Resistance

in #ecotrain7 years ago

This week´s @ecotrain question was about spirituality and today I came across a website with lots of information you might not get from the mass media about different indigenous people and their struggles against oppression, environmental problems, cultural assimilation, etc.

In many places of the world today it is the indigenous people who are at the vanguard of the fight against environmental destruction by corporate greed and money and power hungry politicians, because they still have a very spiritual connection to nature and many times their life style and very survival as a cultural identity depends on an intact environment.

Wether it is the water protectors at Standing Rock, the First Nations in Canada, the Zapatistas in Chiapas, Mexico or indigenous people in Colombia, they all regard nature as their mother who should not be destroyed for the sake of profit.

Here you can watch part of the movie “Sangre y Tierra“ (Blood and Earth) about indigenous resistance in the Cauca region of Colombia. Spoiler alert, this guys are spiritual as fuck! 😎

And since I´ve mentioned the Zapatistas, let me share one of my all time favorite quotes in its English translation.

You are now entering Zapatista territory.
Here the people order and the government obeys.
