RE: How We Got Paid $$$$ To Plant Fruit and Nut Trees in Our Food Forest

in #ecotrain7 years ago

Love your info and photos! We are also planting a food forest concept, but not nearly as large as yours. We have two Dunstan chestnuts on our land--they are backbred with the American chestnut, so they're resistent to the blight, but only have 1/8th Chinese variety, the other 7/8ths are American variety!

Stoked to hear more about your grant. I am good with paperwork and details, so I know we can do this, too. :D

oooooh interesting thanks for the note about the Dunstan chestnut. honestly ANY size food forest is the perfect size! i'd love to see food forests in every yard, park, school, playground, etc!... it's where we need to move to. Yes, i'm writing the post (for tomorrow) about the gritty details :D stay tuned (it's really not that hard, especially if you have a good extension agent!) <3 thanks for stopping by!

That's true--you can squeeze in a LOT of plants in a small space. We have over 100 perennials planted on our 1.3 acres so far, with guilds in progress as we fill in the herbaceous and understory layers. We're doing raised beds + companion planting for annuals as well. I'm also just starting to incorporate biodynamic planting practices too!!
