Regarding the question in the title, the answer would be: because it is inevitable.
Being good people doesn't provide a protection against accidents, disasters and misfortunes. Bad things as well as good things will keep happening to everyone regarding if they are "bad" or "good".
The benefits of being a good person are that it can be easy to manifest good things in your life if you keep a positive attitude and mentality, and having good friendship is also easier if we have good values. This can help us achieve a good life, but it is in no way a protection against bad things happening to us.
So bad things can happen to good people because that is the nature of our reality, anything can happen to anyone.
yes, i picked the title (not even that i believe in the bad guys and the good guys) basically as a question floating around in the cultural ethos. so true, no one is immune to both "bad or good" happenings. I like what you said here:
