in 1960's france converted a lot of US dollars for physical gold until 1971 when Nixon ended the US dollars convertibility to physical gold ... then the US dollars plunged 400% against oil from USD 3 per barrel to USD 12 per barrel .. then in 1974 Kissinger met with king faisal and thus born the current monetary system ... the petrodollar ...
