EU and USA play geostrategic game

in #economics6 years ago (edited)

Churchill once cynically remarked that the Balkans produced more history than they are able to spend in the West. History is clearly repeating itself. The EU presented a new strategy for the Western Balkans in February 2018, and the president of the European Commission, Juncker, personally presents it on a one-week Balkan tour.

The Balkans has long been a soft belly of Europe, an area of wars and geostrategic games, political ferocations and economic defeats. For a decade and a half it was considered a forgotten part of the EU's proliferation, and therefore a violent political turn arouses more uncertainty than hope. The EU can succeed if it offers new reciprocal recipes, separate accession negotiations are absurd. The Western Balkans can be resolved as a whole. Unfortunately, for now we are closer to the Balkanization of the EU than the Europeanization of the Balkans.

The Munich Security Conference raises concern and fear. The number of warfare is rising, the clashes of the great forces are getting closer, arms race and threats are intensifying. The world hangs over the abyss of a global war, which is getting closer and clearer. Major political and economic crises are always ending in military conflicts, but the long economic cycles are unfortunately only the other side of the wars. For the US, security is a global commodity, which increases the price of its hegemony. NATO is making problems with the Russians, the Chinese are manipulating in Asia, the EU seems confused. The British are withdrawing, the French and Germans put on a new beginning of the European army (PESCO), and the national armies are not trained to defend their own countries.

On the other side of Atlantic, Trumponomics experiences the first difficult moments after a year in office. The process complications with the adoption of the federal government budget for 2018/2019 have been shaken by the US for the second time in a year, some because of economic flaws, as well as sharp political clashes. The cocktail of a mature economic cycle, increased budget and indebtedness, the reversal of monetary policy, and the new American protectionism and the revival of American hegemony are in the hands of inexperienced administration and the unpredictable Trump. Trumponomics is a contradictory but great political economic experiment. The US is playing with it a dangerous game, economic, political and geostrategic. But Trump is not the cause of these problems, but one of the consequences.
