Taxes: State Force and Propaganda

in #economics6 years ago (edited)

In the last two posts, I have mentioned the overpowering of states and how they use it to subjugate citizens by different means or instruments, from the exacerbated use of police force to "maintain order" to regulations and policies to aggravate people's pockets.

With regard to the latter, I have always wondered what is the most decisive factor that leads a group of politicians to use the state apparatus to make effective the plundering of 40, 50 or in some cases 60% of the wealth generated by the productive sector through their own efforts for economic growth. It is then that two hypotheses emerge from the state's intentions: 1) the first is that the force that can be exerted by the state as an oppressive apparatus be used to subject taxpayers to its policies and rulings, and 2) the second case - I believe the most obvious - is that it is a product of propaganda deception coming from the state to make people believe that by stealing the income of industries and people they are distributing wealth so that everyone can prosper and mobilize toward a more prosperous and equitable society - when the bottom line seeks equality.

In other words: What is the critical factor that determines the larceny of the ruling oligarchy over the wealth-producing population: the Leninist force that forces the taxpayer to give his money to the State against his free will, or the Gramscian deception that makes the taxpayer voluntarily give his money to the State, believing that he is doing it for his own good?

The harsh reality of this latest government-sponsored Gramscian strategy is that there is a belief that something positive is actually being done with the money when it is actually spent on public spending that often, if not often, ends in corruption through the trickery of cost overruns. In short, the state makes the people who are being robbed believe that they were not robbed, but that this theft is moral and just because the collective right is then put before the individual right, as a result of which a much more collectivist society is created, which thinks less and becomes more dependent on the oppressive apparatus of the state.

There is no need then to resort to statistics to show that the state undoubtedly raises more money through propaganda deception than it actually pays or distributes to its citizens. And when people do not then fall into this deception, because they know perfectly well that such money will never be used for their own benefit, the state resorts to the Leninist method and the use of oppressive force against anyone who does not subjugate the state, it is not curious then to see posters threatening citizens for not paying taxes, and they even go to prison for not wanting their taxes stolen.

What is certain is that the State collects only in these two ways: by voluntarily obtaining the money through deception, like a swindler, and by forcibly obtaining the money by threatening greater harm to someone who would otherwise never deliver what they indicate, like a common thief. Pay your taxes or go to jail.

Where am I going with this profusion of platitudes? To something that I do not doubt in qualifying as the non plus ultra of deception, and it is when a taxpayer, without realizing that he repeats the discourse of the one who misses out on his pocket, due to his lack of capacity for critical thinking, thinks and asserts that the problem of economic growth and poverty is due in its majority to the fact that there is a lot of tax evasion, logically this does not have any, it is rather a fallacious argument. This argument would be the equivalent of saying that a poor person becomes poor because he or she is making a lot of money.

There are countless numbers of taxpayers, who are really idiots, who preach that the problem in economics lies in the large number of people who evade the tax authorities. However, state indoctrination is so great that people do not have the capacity to really educate themselves about the situation in which they live. In the economy, then, it is known that the problem is not tax evasion, but that it is mainly due to a single reason: the tax burden that some companies are subject to and which slows down the economic growth of the country's productive apparatus.

There are two ways to end the complete destruction of the productive sector: by increasing taxes on those who already pay 60% or more of their income, or by efficiently pursuing and punishing those who are evaders as the only livelihood strategy. So I believe that there are plenty of examples of how taxes and the ways in which they are imposed aggravate any economy. Venezuela and Argentina are a clear example of the use of state power to generate repression and a drain on capital that always ends in corruption.

No country will then come out of its moral and economic decadences if the tax burden is not dramatically reduced, in order to do so - obviously - we must reduce public spending in equal measure, which comes, as I said before, from the hand of the taxpayers.
