Socialists (and Democratic Socialists): Why Are You Posting on Steemit?

"... the theory of the Communists may be summed up in the single sentence: Abolition of private property. "

Steemit is not only another spark of light that acknowledges and celebrates the freedom of speech. Steemit has become exhibit # 987654342 of what the human mind can achieve when entrepreneurship is not curbed and government intervention is null. Let's use the proper word to describe it: capitalism.
When I arrived in the US (just before the last presidential campaign started), I was shocked to see thousands of young voters praising Bernie Sanders. Taxing the rich (only that evil 1%)? Free college? Free health care? Where had I heard all those "promises" before? Moreover, where and when have they worked?
Incentives drive human actions. For most people, most of the time, money is the main incentive for whatever they do.
What is wrong with -legally- making money if, in turn, you give society something they value? That "evil 1%" did not get to the top of the ladder "just because". It takes a simple Google search to have basic information of the top 5 companies in America (by market capitalization). Here's a challenge: Name one that has not created a single job. Moreover, find one that was there 20 years ago. Let me help you out: Apple was struggling, Google was a garage project that had not seen light yet, Facebook was going to be a inter-college social media to rate girls, Amazon had just issued its IPO. None of their founders were born into a rich family, yet they became wealthy by creating companies that optimized the lives of millions. In short: their users took them to the top. The government was not there to help them, let alone to regulate their business. There were no choking taxes nor were there candidates showing nostalgia for those old times where income tax was at 90%.
Even if the goal of these entrepreneurs was only to become insanely rich, that could have not been possible without creating jobs (competing for the best human capital, by paying good salaries and giving additional benefits ). The result was a true revolution. Billions of jobs created; new, unforeseen opportunities emerged for those who wanted a shot but did not have the means or the contacts to achieve their potential before the tech boom (YouTube, podcasts, blog sites, independent news channels, etc.). Don't even get me started on education. The e-learning industry (the expected evolution of traditional in-the-classroom education) moves billions, and by the way, it offers also online courses (i.e. MOOCs) at no cost to the student. The so-called "free college" (as depicted by socialists) will die in the hands of technology, just as central-banking money lost to Bitcoin.
With the above being said, my intention is not to dispute the right that socialists have to express themselves in sites like Steemit. I want to call them out and make them aware that what they're proposing will destroy the middle-class (and below). No matter how small the group they target with their tax plan is, taxes will destroy jobs, slow-down the economy, prevent salary raises and kill incentives for new entrepreneurs to dream big.
So, if you are crossing your fingers for Bernie to run and win in 2020, just stop and think for a second about what actually is at stake. Moreover, ask yourself why the best (and by far the wealthiest) companies in the world are all American, and why you are using an application that emerged freely and whose main idea is to pay you for what you post.

Sort:

I won't tell them they can't post here that's what they basically have done on Twitter and Facebook and I welcome a good debate I'm libertarian. It does go against their stifling principle of censoring those that disagree with them though. I'm personally glad we have things like steemit to express ourselves. People speak on here through upvotes.

One thing though, Alibaba is huge and it's Chinese

do you believe in free speech or do you support censorship based on political views you don't agree with?
