Landlords Are Struggling to Make Ends Meet as CDC Extends Eviction Ban

in #economics4 years ago

Under this eviction moratorium, tenants who fail to pay their rent or mortgage are shielded from removal.“It’s coming out of my pocket. I’m in a very tight situation," says Archie Djabatey, 35, who owns a four-unit building in Washington, DC.

I guess the assumption is that if you own rental property then you must be rich. Not that being rich makes violating your property rights okay but the fact of the matter is that many property owners rely on income from their property to make ends meet, including actually maintaining the property.

To make matters worse, landlords can't evict even for reasons other than failure to pay rent. Is your tenant destructive or disruptive or breaking other terms of the lease? Well too fucking bad... It's almost as if the politicians coming up with these policies are ignorant morons.

Don't get me wrong... I don't get some sick satisfaction in seeing people thrown out of their homes. But the solution can't be to violate the rights of others and putting them in equally dire straights. Perhaps letting people go to work would be a start.
