“109% of all net job creation over the last year has gone to migrants. Did you know that? Almost every job that was created has gone to migrants -- in fact, more than every job." - Trump

Also I'd just like to note:

  1. Native-born job growth post pandemic has been just fine. Prime age labor force participation for native workers is above pre-pandemic levels. This is actually better than pre-pandemic forecasts. The economic recovery has been across both native-born and immigrant workers.

  2. Native born workers as a whole are getting older. This has led to more retirements. Immigration is a good thing actually- younger immigrant workers help support this aging population.

  3. BLS data doesn't differentiate between immigrant classes. It just sorts by immigrant or native born.

I don't have the lead poisoning to reverse engineer what the original data point is that Trump mangled here. I will say immigrant workers have had a lot of job growth since the pandemic. This is partly because immigration has rebounded a lot from the pandemic/Trump era restrictions on immigration. Well above pre pandemic forecasts.

Immigrants tend to work in different industries than native born workers, so don't make the all too common mistake that immigrants are stealing native born jobs. In fact this immigration is probably singlehandedly keeping the hotel/restaurant, leisure, agriculture, and construction spaces alive since the pandemic.
