18 killed in earthquake in Papua New Guinea

A strong earthquake struck in Papua New Guinea. At least 18 people were killed initially in the earthquake with the magnitude of 6.7.

On Tuesday (March 6th), The earthquake's epicenter was 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) west of the town of Komo, said Hela province's governor William Bondo.

He said, we are still not sure about the number of casualties. Many people live in that area.

On February 26, 55 people died in a strong 7.5 magnitude earthquake. The epicenter of the earthquake hit the remote village area, 55 miles south of the Parga in Anga province.

There is widespread destruction and damage. There are reports of landslides in various places. Airport runway is particularly damaged. The telecommunication system also suffered huge losses.

According to the report of government agencies, about 1.5 million people become devastated. To help send relief to those harsh mountainous areas, the authorities have to face severe challenges.
