As we have described before in brief history of leadership, Leader is who can motivate and inspire folllowers. Leader word taken from old English “laedan” meaning “take with one to show the way”. Leadership as a subject of inquiry and study are distincly 20th-century phenomena. In this chance we will discuss about “Classical Leadership Style vs Traditional Leadership Style”. CLASSICAL LEADERSHIP STYLE

Traditional leadership systematic researcher begin early 1930s. Meanwhile, classical leadership before recorded history, to humans’ first family and tribal group. Tre tribes life as hunter, for hunter-getherer tribe to stay alive. The small community need a leader around them to protect them from hazardous such as wild animals, hazardous weather, and violent neighbors.

Stay alive in a small tribe in forest will be always needed a strong man to protect them from hazardous especially for women “pregnant”. The tribes will select the group leader by the requerment as follow; physical strength, agibility, and competence in making decision that advanced their group well being.
Prehistory Leadership is wellknown as physical strength hunter leader.

How and whom they elect treir leader?

What the tribe need and hope from their leader, they are not a organization members isn’t it? Stay alive in small group is the most important than anything, they attempt to protect themselves from hazardous by selecting their leader who has superior hunting ability and a broader moral perspective.
The tribe need their leader when they fight enemies such as wild animals or they need to hunter animals for food.

Leader could organize others to find shelter and food. Protecting the group from hostile “hazardous wild animals” outsider or help group members make sense to become natural leader.Within family, the leader effective on parenting-teaching children (langage, social skill for themselves and their clan in the future.

From time to time the small tribe become to community or civilization grow become less moment to moment. Leadership characteristic is no anylonger as physical strength in fighting enemies but also the societies made other necessary qualities such as intellegent, integrity, and self-discipline.

TRADITIONAL LEADERSHIP STYLE

When is Traditional leadership style begin????
As we have heard and learned from those who shared and teach us in education world and history, traditional is opposite from modern. Leadership has been around since humans first formed small communities. The systematic study leadership did not begin until the early 1930s.

By the 17th century, European agricutural method had increased ; surpluses were common and commerse ecome fossible. Trading world including east to Asia and west to America. Furthermore, by the 18th century, technical advanced had increased ; technological developments, increasing business and market, and merchants entrepreneur to invest in factory ( industrial revolution begun here).

Finally, Classical organizational theory emerged during the early 20th century. It including differences of scintific mangement “focus on management of work and workers” and administrative management “concern or focus on how an organization should be structure and operated”.

Traditional leadership style; The Great Model, The Leader trait paradigm,and Leaders behavior

• The Great Man Paradigm

According to Rost, “leadership is about what great man do, articulated a hundred years ago, exception now add women to the doers of leadership.”
Great man concept popularity is easy to understand. Exceptional individuals come to prominence at certain era. Great Leader is slightly more intelligent than followers, Great Leader is more energetic and forceful, and Great Leader better than public speaker.

• The Leader Trait

Greek Philosopher Aristotle believe that some people are mark for leader and others for followers because individual are born with the characteristics that will make them leaders.
Scholars, Gibb (1947), Jenkins(1947) identified in several researchs that studies kompleted between 1904 and 1947 they found personal factors into following category:

### Capacity: intelligent, aleertness, verbal facility,originality, judgment
### Achievement: scholarship, knowledge, atletic accomplishments
### Responsibility: initiative, self-confident, desire to excel, agresiveness, dependability.
### Status: socioeconomi position, popularity.
### Situational : followers characteristic, goals to be achieve, context variables.

• The Leader Behavior

What behavior imphasize here is what leader do as opposed to their traits or sourceh of power. Tho types leader action : concern with people, interpersonal relations, and group maintainance. The other aspect focus on production, goal achievement, and task completion.
In addition, Scholar found in the studies three types of behavior categories: external invironment (stable environment), task oriented behavior (increasing effeciency), and relation-oriented behavior (creat community for change). Situasional factors will be an impact on the effectiveness of the leaders behavior.

Finally, Traditional leadership generally involves the exercise of power by one at the “top of the pyramid.” Male are usually head of a common family should be considered a traditional leader. majority monarchy, authocracy, and theocracy would be ruled by traditional leaders. Leader in traditional consists of: king, Sultan, emperor etc.
