Let Her Climb
Let Her Climb
When the fight gets old and grey
Still hours left of the day
Sit propped up on a gun
What happened to all the fun
Children laughing, run and play
While parents hide the truth away
Shined up shackled to a car
Fed by oily sick liar's tar
When the fight gets old and grey
A wrinkled face just fades away
A new eye opens then looks around
Finds history bleeding on the ground
Search out reasons for the storm
Was it worth the pain in being born
Cities' stench with landfill dreams
Of dollar signs and fearful screams
When the fight gets old and grey
The soldiers die and decay
Leaving lessons for the next to come
Bury them along with their guns
Hero rust, and rain, and cleansing wind
Guide the children back again
To mother's arms and papa's lap
Never believe again in lack
When the fight gets old and grey
Hang it on a cross today
Forget about trying to be right
And lift your sister to the light
She's always known more than you
So shut your mouth and listen too
She's heard the story so many times
Maybe once you'll let her climb
When the fight gets old and grey
