Sustainable Development #2 The Spheres of Sustainable Development
Good day steemians, in the last series I introduced the concept of Sustainable Development. Today I will be writing on the spheres of Sustainable Development.
Sustainable development is conceptually divided into three (3) spheres namely;
Social Sustainability
Environmental Sustainability
Economic Sustainability
CreditSocial Sustainability is the concept that our descendants on the planet earth should have similar access to social resources like we the present generation have currently, these includes;
Human rights
Culture
Employment
Information
Healthcare
History
Equal Opportunity
Quality of living
CreditEnvironmental Sustainability is the appropriate management of the factors and practices that influence the quality of the environment on a long term basis, it is also the process of making sure current modes of interaction with the environment are pursued with the ideas of keeping the environment unpolluted and undegraded as naturally as possible, such as agricultural land, air quality, and water quality.
CreditEconomic Sustainability occurs when a political entity or unit has the preferred percentage of either its citizen or populace below the preferred minimum standard of living level, this percentage needs to be very low
The World Bank defines poverty in absolute terms. The bank defines extreme poverty as living on less than US$1.90 per day>(PPP), and moderate poverty as less than $3.10 a day. It has been estimated that in 2008, 1.4 billion people had consumption levels below US$1.25 a day and 2.7 billion lived on less than $2 a day.
True economic sustainability requires the responsible use of resources by individuals to better their quality of life and at the same time not harming the environment.
