The Flat Earth Theory - Why Is This Theory Growing in Numbers

Earth is not a perfect sphere. In fact, the earth is rounded up and flattened in poles.
As happens in Cities or Countries our universe has Laws that do need to be respected. And it's precisely because of one of those laws that the earth is spherical.

The theory of a flat earth might look like a joke or even absurd but it's not. The believers of this theory are increasingly present in social networks.

Firstly I'd like to mention that this is something that is completely rejected by scientists and researchers worldwide.

You may have seen people saying that the earth is not round. the ones who defend this idea say that our planet is flat like a pizza and covered by a huge dome. The north pole would be right in the middle of the earth and Antarctica would be on the edges of this "pizza" functioning as a huge wall made of ice. And that the Sun and moon would be the same size and would circle inside the dome.

This is the most common model of the flat earth but you can find some models that differ from one another.

Don't we already know that our planet is round? Has Science not proven that long ago?
What about all of those photos that are taken from the earth, from space?

Well, many people who believe in this theory say that these pictures are fake. For them, the scientific evidences that the world is spherical, are part of a great conspiracy made by country governments and also by space agencies such as NASA.

Flat earth believers are not crazy

In 1906, Wilbur Glenn Voliva became head of a slightly bizarre religious sect that ran the city of Zion, Illinois. Voliva believed that the earth was flat and he enforced flat earth's teachings in schools in Zion. Voliva believed not only that the earth was flat, but that the sun was only a few thousand miles away from earth. Not 93 Million. He also believed that the sun was only 32 miles across, not 860 thousand.

Today with the power of the internet modern day flat earthers have picked up where Voliva left off. they have quite good explanations for any evidence you throw at them that the earth is round:

• Circumnavigation is really just a flat circle path.

• The round shadow the Earth casts on the Moon during a lunar eclipse could also be made by a flat disc

• They also argue that gravity, as we know it, simply doesn't exist. The flat disc of earth is accelerating up at 9.8 meters per second. so when you jump, the gravity doesn't push you back but instead the earth "catches" you back in the air.

• Some of them take ground in interpretations from passages in the bible to say that the planet is flat.

Well, it's not my role to discuss bible interpretations in here. Most of all, because it's extremely subjective, and depends on every individual's beliefs. And the faith of each person must be respected, just as anyone is free to believe what they want. But a person can have their own faith and still believe in science. I mean, they are completely different things. Science does fight against faith.
