Natural food -preservation for a- better healthier population.

Food preservation is a method of storing food crops after drying from its freshly state to avoid rotting for future use or consumption. This process involves using sunlight for drying, with examples being Maize (Zea mais, L) beans, (Phaselous sp). This traditional way of food preservation greatly contributes in improving the health of the population.

Several methods are bound and include(salting, refrigerators, using chemicals such as fumigants etc.) Drying of these crops helps reduce the moisture content found in the crops and this to avoid spoilage due to fungi attack. The process of crop preservation is to avoid crops being infested and damaged such Maize and beans by( Sithophilus zeamais, Haines,1991) and these crops are cultivated in the North West Region of Cameroon, twice a year.
However, modern preservation method entails using fumigants before storing up in bags or containers as the case maybe. With this system there are always chemical residues that makes the crops to have unpleasant smell, contribute to health problems, etc.

The traditional system on the other hand, involves either preserving the crop against the wind to facilitate continuous drying since weevils cannot withstand extreme cold conditions as shown on the roof top or kept in well sealed and air tight 200L rubber containers to avoid air circulation or large bans can be equally constructed across wind direction to facilitate this method. So let’s use traditional methods in order to safe guard a healthy population as well as saving money.
