The Mega City

in #dxchain6 years ago (edited)

What’s the greatest challenge to humankind? Arguably the expansion of our megacities. At the time of writing there are roughly 25 mega metropolises with over ten million individuals and with current birth rates more than a million folks move to large cities every day. If we keep going at this rate, by the year 2050, seventy percent of the world’s population will belong to a mega city. The unfortunate fact is that approximately forty billion dollars in precious resources including water, gas and other related energy resources go to absolute waste. Instead of trying to produce more of a resource that’s inherently constrained, how about we build a smarter economy and a smarter city that can help us use these resources more effectively.

All of the above described items can be accomplished with IOT and mass data collection. For example, if we can connect electronic devices and they can share information, we can use this data to make more informed decisions. Governments can make better decisions on a macro level and its citizens can make better decisions on a daily basis to improve on resource consumption habits. This can also be applied to improving safety and almost every aspect of how we operate. What’s the solution to processing all this data? Simply put you must store this data and then after you must process this data. Ethereum is currently the giant in the blockchain world, however it’s use for storing data is quite limited, that’s where DXchain comes into play since DXchain offers both a storage and a computation component all in the same package.

In a smart city, there are many individuals and their accompanying devices that need to interact with one another properly. The key is to make these solutions on an open source platform that can be continually refined, reimagined and dynamic for new services, applications, and visions. The most ideal technology to link IOT is one that we currently have, cellular technology, the current technology that powers all of our wireless communication data. As 5G networks come into play why not use some of that bandwidth to process relevant data to make cities function more efficiently? We can use this for energy sensors, water sensors, traffic sensors, and almost any device with a data input in which we can then take that data, process it and turn it into something meaningful afterwards.

DXchain is probably the most viable solution we have to date since it combines both decentralized computing as well as decentralized storage in one elegant turn key solution. This will allow us to connect trains, cars, airplanes, and any other transport vehicle you can imagine. A connected waste management system could help cities enhance efficiency in the collection of human waste which in turn can save both money and C02 by product. If you connected emergency vehicles, this could also help them get to citizens in emergency need much quicker. While video surveillance enters the territory of big brother, it could also potentially provide insights that would be useful to all the above examples.
