Blockchain and Healthcare

There’s a lot of buzz going around today with the blockchain and healthcare and it’s all justified. Everything from medical records to billing are all relatively disorganized and there needs to be an organizational structure to help parse that data out correctly. There needs to be something that can manage all of this one simple easy solution. The most important aspect of blockchain in healthcare is the privacy aspect. Medical data is not only sensitive to the user, but it’s also quite valuable, so it needs to be protected both from outside attacks as well as potential culprits on the inside, say even a party such as the medical staff. As IOT adoption becomes more pervasive, it should be noted that medical wearables will become more common and the data that those devices track can be used as part of a holistic health strategy. Big data that allows accommodation for medical records (decentralization also provides for privacy) as well as it’s accompanying IOT application through wearables.

Blockchain could link all these pieces in a streamlined fashion and making use of this information could provide critical insights. By collecting data and correlating it to one another, AI could draw inferences that are absolutely invaluable to the user. Imagine being able to foresee potential medical problems such as diabetes or stroke. This information would also be extremely valuable to health care providers, since they would be able to accurately gauge the health of a potential customer. A lot of the main issues that we face in today’s healthcare atmosphere is the security of it as well. The problem comes from the fact that it’s all stored in a centralized location, usually cloud hosting of some sort, which leaves it quite vulnerable to outside attackers that are looking to steal or monetize the information.
