March 2, 2018: Duty
Marcus Aurelius: Meditations, 6.2: "Never shirk the proper dispatch of your duty, no matter if you are freezing or hot, groggy or well rested, vilified or praised, not even if dying or passed by other demands. Even dying is one of the most important assignments of life and, in this as in all else, makes the most of your resources to do well the duty at hand."
Duty is an important component of Hinduism as well, as it is one of the most important parts of one's responsibility. If you are a warrior, fight, if you are a politician, make great laws, if you are a doctor, heal. No matter what you end up as, do it well. I've also heard this in more recent times, that you should do your best at what you are doing, whether you are the astronaut going to space or the janitor cleaning the rocket room. Even the janitor can say that he/she is putting people on the moon!
Throughout the day we have small duties and large duties, focus on some of the smaller tasks you have at hand and try to do them well.
