The Ducklings Got a New Home.
I was actually always hoping this would be their home for the summer. It’s the perfect place and too far from my home.
For those just picking up on the story, I did not choose these ducks. Someone abandoned them outside my home over a month ago. After a day or so I noticed no one was feeding or giving them water so I started to do it. Then I realized I was the only one most of the time.
I can’t really keep ducks for a few reasons. Let’s start with I live downtown a city of 6 million people. I have 2 cats keeping me busy. I work full time so I am not around to keep their food and water full during the hot summer days. I asked around for a few weeks once I noticed they would soon be too big for the little cage they are in.
Last Night
I was really close last week when a teacher said her parents live in the countryside and she would take them there. Then the next day she sent me a message her parents couldn’t. Back to square one. I asked few other people then finally got a friend to come with me and the folks at the reservoir that had ducks last year but this year. The lady said she could do it and seemed happy with the offer of free ducks and a bunch of food for them. I should have given the lady some fruits for herself; I will have to go back soon and do that.
I put them here for baths many times. This time just a few minutes to clean their cage.
I took them over in a box that their cage slid into without a millimeter to spare luckily it was the only box on hand. I thought it would be less stressful if they didn’t have to see the cars and noise and people.
It’s great place I hope they get to swim in the water. I am not sure if they will be allowed as there are many fishermen there in the day. They must stock this pond with something. You can pay a small fee and find spot and get casting.
Well they have a spectacular view of the sunset every night. Bigger cages they stretch out in and I get to visit anytime just 10 minute walk from home. I wonder if they will notice I am not with them anymore. I was their only care taker pretty much all their life.
