Potential New Home for My Little Ducklings. Dalian Downtown Reservoir.
I am not sure if this is the best place for them anymore. Last year there were a dozen ducks here being taken care of, now it’s all fisherman and not a duck in sight and cats on the prowl.
I got off work yesterday and popped by this place which is about a 15 minute walk from my home maybe 17 if I’m carrying a ducks in a cage. It’s quiet and peaceful considering its right downtown but bless these hills for making it seem secluded.
The park is mostly old men playing cards and mah jong, like dominoes for China and lot more sophisticated. That bridge leads to a very affluent residential neighbourhood and I am not allowed to cross, I tired, I couldn’t even play the ”lost and confused traveler” card. Lol
The big building on right is actually an acrobat school and theatre and the road going past it is the one I mentioned where I gathered live plants to make stuff with. Someone will take care of these with the rest of the garden.
Last year there really was a man who seemed to be in charge of this place who had a bunch of ducks. He has cages for them to put in at night and keep them safe. Safely kept from people trying to steal and eat them. I know these ducklings are destined to be a dinner. I am not opposed to that as long as they can live a good life in the meantime.
Even this cat is on the prowl
I don’t think is suitable anymore. I thought I could just drop them off by the cages and they would just join the other ducks. Now I’m wondering why there aren’t duck here this year. Maybe a bi-law came into effect this year, as many do all the time here.
None the less these guys are going to need a bigger home this week. I really don’t want to spend money on them. I’m saving my money for my trip home to Canada this summer; this is an expense I’d rather avoid. Who will take care of them while I am in Canada for 5 weeks anyways; I have two cats I’m still looking for someone to care of while I am gone.
It is a nice place to hang out at anyways. Locals love it. I often see people walking around the main street with fishing poles, now I know where they are going. I'm sure there is a fee to fish here as the pond must be stocked and somebody had to pay for that.
Well, I will keep you posted on further developments. I'm going to prepare a big pool for them when I get off work this afternoon. The people who abandoned them know I am looking for them, everyone I talk to around my building knows I am not impressed. I do worry one morning I will come out and they will be gone. Weird eh? lol
They will be so happy!!!!
@solarguy, lovely ducks!
Thanks Helene.
generous <3
Thank u. Someone said they may have 'imprinted' on me so now i feel an obligation. I do enjoy it though, its very Zen for me.
wow... I wonder if people are aware
of something in the pictures that I
wouldn't dare to comment on...???
@pocketechange
They dont they know. When i plucked them years ago some seniors asked what i was doing. I told it was Canadian Tea and told them how to make it, in broken chinese. Lol.
lol... Good come back answer...
@pocketechange
wonderful to hear that they're going live cage free and hopefully happy aquatic lives to have ducklings of their own someday
Well, that would be awesome. Hope so too.
Looks like a nice place. I don't know if they like the sound of the mahjong tiles htting the table though
Haha. Yea. Everytime i hear tile rattles coming out of a building i assume some gambling is going on. Lol
When the ducklings about to fall asleep, some guy goes pong!
Beautiful scenery! It's very nice and peaceful place! The ducks are really cute, especially when looking close! (7th pic.) Hopefully, you will find good solution for them! And I'm sure they have happy life now! ;)
