I'm Tim and I have 0.4k followers (Do the numbers really matter?)
You see it left and right, people throwing follower/subscriber numbers at you. But what does that mean?
Personally, I'm more interested in the number of intereactions. How many people can you organically reach on this platform? Now that is something worth bragging about, the number of people who you can truly engage and have interact with your content.
Of course, it is seen as an achievement on other social media platforms, to amass a huge amount of followers, but does it really count if they don't even see or 'like' your work?
I'd like to see that way of thinking change, especially as this platform grows, I'd love to see people worry less a about competing to gain more followers and chase the authentic engagement itself. At the end of the day, engaging and interacting with this community, literally creates Steem, and that my friends adds even more value to feedback than ever before.
This is why I wanted to start the #dtubedaily community in the first place. To create a place where all creators are one and the same, regardless of skill and create a collection of people who genuinely interact and give feedback daily to those who do the same.
Be a good follower, it's the steemy thing to do.
Thanks for stopping by, leave some words below and lets get talking.

Number of followers are vanity metrics par excellence so no need to focus on that. For authors, two things matter imo, vests following and the number of (meaningful) comments per post.
I’m with you on that one. I’d rather have a post full of good and productive comments than anything else. Otherwise it’s like putting all you have out there and then having radio silence come back.
Thanks for checking it out and stopping by!
For somebody numbers matter 😍😂
The thing is
Just go and make good long lasting connections with the people. That will benefit you most. Not only for the money but also good realtions and who knows you end up making best friends on steemit.
That's totally true. I have 634 followers but my posts have very few interactions. I become dissatisfied sometimes but what I can do. It's okay because everything give us experience.
I think it’s easy to get lost in a feed where someone may follow so many people that they can’t keep up. Its important to stay confident in your own content, that way you’ll continue to post and potentially find an audience that interacts more consistently. Thanks for stopping by, I appreciate your input!
Yes, that's right. You are welcome @tim.clarke. I am trying to find my niche but still I don't know what to focus. I am PhD student in Paleoanthropology and it is what I want to be doing in my life. I don't know how to implement science and research here while being original content creator.
Thanks for your advice. Anyway, interacting with Steemians help to grow and find the niche.
I m not sure why I have most of my followers, as I have only done one blog post; it could be they have seen my comments, and are interested in the same subjects as I am
I would say because you offer a lot of great value to people by being such an interactive follower yourself. You always leave fantastic and insightful comments to people, and I think there’s a lot of respect and appreciation for you, even though you haven’t posted on your own feed, being active in many others is building an audience for yourself. Always a plus!
you are too kind!, but thank-you
In my opinion you're completly right, these numbers don't mean anything, if your followers arent interacting with you. But to many people these numbers are everything. It's sad if you think about it.
Nice Video!
Thank you! It is unfortunate that people value the size of the audience instead of the quality of the audience. Just like in a music concert, an energetic and animated audience creates a much better atomosphere than and still and quiet one.
Thanks for checking it out!
I will always appreciate the comments and engagements more. I feel inspired to create because I have people who genuinely connect and relate with what I share and how I express myself and I only know that because people are telling me. A high number without engagement feels empty. Like being on a busy train and no looking up or talking with each other. Yes, technically you are not alone but it definitely feels lonely.
Same here! How alleles are we supposed to know how the audience receives and what they think of our work unless they tell us!
I know what you mean about that lonely feeling, I hope that the direction this platform goes in while separating itself from traditional social media, that doesn’t become a problem for anyone.
100% agree that interaction is king. I think it's important to reserve some voting power for interacting with the folks who comment.
Exactly! This platform was built on the idea of incentivising interaction, and that’s what I really love about it. Thats a great point too, reward people for rewarding you with feedback and support! Thanks for coming by Bob, always humbling to have you here
I love your stuff man! Keep up the great work!
I remember when I first followed you, I had no idea that you had a passion for dTube or vlogging for that matter. Guess because we didn't interact together as much as I thought I did. I get tunnel vision sometimes because I've been wired to follow this 'follower mindset'. I'm grateful you rewired my thinking, Tim.
I remember when you first followed me, and the forst few times I interacted with you! To begin with I really pushed into the photography community and found your awesome work and expressive writing really inspirational. As I’ve been exploring different things creatively, admittedly I’ve missed out on a lot of the main photography ventures I set out to follow early on.
But I’m coming back to that, I haven’t forgotten you my friend! Thanks for checking in!
Numbers don't mean anything. And as a content creator see that immediately. I had about 130 followers back a month ago. Now I have about 240 and I don't have the feeling there is an increase of interaction with my content.
I would prefer to have only 10 more followers like the ones that comment and upvote regularly than thousands more in numbers.
I’ll have 10 of those as well! It’s always nice to have more people keeping up with things, but to even better when you get some feedback or a little love every now and again for the work you create that they followed you for to begin with. Thanks for stopping by my friend!
