I mostly agree, passion behind the development will be a key factor in the success of any of these applications. I still say the first mobile app that fully incorporates all the different portals (dtube/dlive/dsound/steepshot/etc) with a simplistic user interface will be the one that ultimately succeeds. The issue I see now is that the competition between development teams is forcing users to choose one or the other and stay loyal, can’t we all just get along and integrate?
Yeah man, it's sort of turned into that hasn't it? We just gotta keep holding on.
Imagine what would happen if we could get all the different development teams to actually work on one project, how quickly that would come together?

Personally, sure the money and potential attracted me to these platforms....But I had enough of the control the centralized platforms had.
For example, I busted my butt for years developing followings on social media but never really messed with YouTube. A few years ago, I decided to make some videos on it...Did a few a week for my wordpress blog and then they decide to slap all 'small creators' and pull away our rewards like that.
No recourse. No other options. I didn't want to build my following there anymore simply because they could switch things at the drop of the dime and take away my potential profits.
Are apps on the blockchain the solution? Who knows and I agree that all of them need to do a better job of onboarding and getting people here...
But people are fed up with the control the centralized platforms have. Maybe not everyone, but I know the blockchain speaks to the people that have had enough and want to build a following that they can work with for years without the fear of having their rewards stripped away.
Luckily the blockchain is ever growing, but full transparency (what the blockchain is) isn't always the best solution.
Some very good and valid points. Some, I've pondered on myself.
I think right now though, the possible directions are so many, that a navigation map based on what we know now, will be useless in 6 months :)

My own experience: Some of my friends think dtube/steemit and so on are to complex for them. They say without a facelift they wouldn't come to here..

money is not a guarantee. steemit, dtube, dlive etc. should get improved hardly to reach "normal" consumers and creators
It's not the only thing, but it sure does help...Sometimes money is what keep the project alive long enough to reach a large audience and really go viral.
Yes, people need to overstand the long term potential this platform has & control their ego & greed! From small minnows up to big whales... a lot of vampire thinking. Bring real content!
