Food from the mountain - collected and cooked on the spot
As is the way of Thai people, these lovely ladies invited me to join them to eat with them when I was on a long motorcycle ride in Northern Thailand. Thai hospitality never fails to impress me and I faith in humanity grows stronger when I experience these moments.
I am embarrassed to hear myself speaking Thai. I am not a very confident speaker, and tend to laugh at myself when embarrassed. I think these ladies found me a bit of a funny curiosity, because of my stilted Thai and because I was so interested in what they were doing. Something they probably do regularly without thinking too much about it.
They had a giggle at me, but humoured me in a pleasant way.
I had been bathing/cooling down in the river below, and thinking back I may have even disturbed some of their traps! Oops! We chatted when I came back up the river bank and they asked me if I wasn't scared to be riding my bike alone. Not at all, I replied. I even bragged about going to Laos and Cambodia alone, haha. Maybe they thought I was an arrogant idiot, but still, they kindly asked me if I am hungry and invited me to join.
A fire was being lit from branches collected nearby, and all the herbs and fish was just collected from outside in the area. Fantastic!
A totally self-sustaining meal.
Thailand is a bountiful country.
Amazing Thailand indeed! :)
